The Skin Institute journal
About our information.
Clear information should help you ask better questions and make an informed decision.
Who publishes the journal?
The Skin Institute publishes this journal as a clinic resource. Articles credited to The Skin Institute have an organisational author. That credit does not mean an article has been independently medically reviewed. Where a specific review is recorded, it is identified on the article.
What is it for?
Our guides provide general information about skin concerns, cosmetic treatments, preparation and questions to bring to a consultation. They do not diagnose a condition, prescribe treatment or replace personal advice. A treatment discussed in an article may not be suitable for you or offered by our clinic; current options are listed on our treatment pages.
Sources and limitations
We link to relevant sources where available so you can read further. Evidence, products and guidance can change. Publication and update dates refer to the article, and do not imply that every claim has been newly clinically assessed on that date. Illustrative photographs are not evidence of patient results.
Choosing a practitioner
Before deciding on treatment, ask about relevant training, experience, insurance, the product or device proposed, expected benefits, risks, alternatives and follow-up arrangements. You can discuss the practitioner’s qualifications at consultation. You should have time to consider the advice without pressure.
Corrections and questions
If you notice something inaccurate or out of date, please email hello@theskininstituteberkshire.co.uk with the page address and the point you would like checked. For a question about your own care, contact the clinic directly.
